Scammers Rip Off SNAP Benefits, Keeping Americans Hungry

The scope of the issue isn’t clear, but the US Department of Agriculture, which runs the SNAP program, and states around the country have published warnings on their websites about the thefts in recent months.
“It’s really been blowing up,” Ashley Burnside, a senior policy analyst at the Center for Law and Social Policy, told me. “These skimmers are just very, very tricky things to catch.”
