Workers who lose their jobs because they stay home to care for older, sick or disabled family members are often unable to receive unemployment insurance benefits, even though some states have rules that are intended to maintain their eligibility, the Center for Law and Social Policy said. CLASP reviewed the unemployment insurance rules of the 50 states and claimed in a report that “outmoded rules and lack of public outreach leaves many potential recipients in the dark about their unemployment insurance options.”
