The Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP) applauds passage by the U.S. House of Representatives of the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024. This bipartisan tax proposal makes a meaningful step toward a fully refundable and inclusive Child Tax Credit (CTC).
The federal government provides a majority of resources for programs that help people with low incomes, even when state and local government administers the programs. Smart investments and strong protections help people get ahead, but cutting or repealing supports traps families in poverty. People of color, who are disproportionately low income, are particularly affected. CLASP advocates for a strong federal budget and for federal legislation and regulations that promote economic security and well-being for children, youth, and families with low incomes. In particular, we advocate for policies that support work; provide access to health, nutrition, and other supports; and invest in education and training. We also tell the stories of those who are affected by federal budget cuts and caps—showing how policy truly affects people.
