“This summer, the Trump Administration proposed changes to the rules governing how immigrants qualify for legal permanent status in the U.S., commonly known as a “green card.” The plan to deny green cards to anyone who is, or could be, a “public charge” is impacting schools and students at all levels of the educational system. These changes could affect the immigration status and access to food, health and financial benefits of many of the 18,165,000 immigrant children and 1,169,464 international students currently living in the U.S.”
