This article by Cecilio Morales reviews a new report from the Urban Institute about the CLASP-led Work Support Strategies initiative.

Here’s an excerpt from the article, which is available to subscribers: “The researchers focus on the ‘one of every eight’ workers whose wages just barely lift their households beyond poverty. Their low-wage jobs in cashiering, food service, retail sales, product stocking and personal care have ‘unpredictable’ schedules and are sometimes subject to seasonality, causing income shortfalls, underemployment and unemployment. In addition, some face physical or mental health illness or disabilities.”
