“All of these attacks, like on birthright citizenship, on Plyler and access to K-12 education, on access to programs like Head Start — that are specifically designed to help children be able to succeed in school and get a good start at the beginning of their education — is completely squarely focused on hurting children and undermining their ability to thrive,” said Wendy Cervantes, director of immigration and immigrant families at the Center for Law and Social Policy, which advocates for policy supporting low-income families. “The scarcity concerns are real, but it’s not immigrant students that are the problem,” she added. “It’s the amount of resources that the federal government is providing, and then the ongoing attacks.”
