Young African Leaders: Inspiring Leadership and Civil Society Engagement

Kisha Bird, senior policy analyst with the Youth team at CLASP, will participate in a panel discussion Aug. 31, 2011 during the "Young African Leaders: Inspiring Leadership and Civil Society Engagement", a project administered by Phelps Stokes for the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The IVLP project engages young civic and community leaders, political activists, NGO leaders, journalists and teachers from 22 countries in Africa. Ms. Bird's panel will be from 3 - 5 p.m. in Washington, D.C. and will explore challenges and the impact of national youth advocacy and collaboration with other national and local advocacy organizations. Participants will observe how citizens' groups interact with elected officials at all levels to promote political and social change. The group will also explore the diverse views held by Americans and how that diversity contributes to democracy.
