In response to EOIR Docket No. 18-0002, RIN 1125-AA94, Request for Comments: Procedures for Asylum and Withholding of Removal; Credible Fear and Reasonable Fear Review from June 15, 2020, CLASP submitted these comments on July 15, 2020, to the Executive Office of Immigration Review, Department of Justice, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Department of Homeland Security opposing the proposed asylum regulations in their entirety and calling on the agencies to withdraw the regulations. These proposed rules represent a radical rewriting of the U.S. asylum system. Taken together, these proposed rules would eviscerate asylum protections that have been in place in the United States for decades.
