Wendy Chun-Hoon is CLASP’s president and executive director. She brings decades of experience spanning the public, social, and philanthropic sectors as a leader with a deep commitment to centering workers and their lived experience when forming policy solutions and spearheading sustainable reform in care policy, workforce development, and family economic security. Throughout her career, she has focused on elevating workers’ voices, particularly women, LGBTQ people, and those from communities that have been marginalized. She’s respected for her ability to use strategic advocacy to achieve game-changing results and for her skills in building diverse coalitions and leading complex initiatives.

As former U.S. Secretary of Labor Julie Su said upon Ms. Chun-Hoon being named to lead CLASP, “Wendy is that rare person who combines great vision with concrete strategies and the ability to inspire bold action. I have seen this up close as I got to work side by side with her at the Department of Labor to invest in Black women-led organizations, produce research on the need for child care and drivers of pay inequity, and to give women all across the country a real shot at economic security.”

Ms. Chun-Hoon most recently served as the head of the Women’s Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Appointed by President Biden, she aligned DOL efforts with the White House’s first-ever gender equity action plan; led the drafting, staffing, and implementation of the whole-of-government action plan to end gender-based violence and harassment; secured commitments from mayors across the country to DOL’s Good Job Principles; and increased the Bureau’s annual budget by 27 percent.

Before joining the Biden Administration, Ms. Chun-Hoon was the executive director of Family Values @ Work, where she led a national network of grassroots coalitions fighting for care policies and workplace rights like paid sick and safe days, family medical leave insurance, and child care. Under her leadership, Family Values @ Work expanded rights for 55 million workers and their families and rallied support for the passage of more than 60 new laws. While at the organization, Ms. Chun-Hoon developed strategic efforts aligning state-based organizing and communications
efforts to bolster national policy reform; helped to launch the Paid Leave for All campaign; co-founded the Family Justice Network; and provided guidance to the White House and Congress on care policy.

Prior to her role at Family Values @ Work, Ms. Chun-Hoon served as the associate director of The Special Fund for Poverty Alleviation at the Open Society Foundations. She has also worked in the Maryland Department of Human Services and at the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

She currently serves on the board of Family Values @ Work Action and the advisory board for WorkingNation. She previously served on the board of the National Employment Law Project and as board chair of the iF Foundation.

Ms. Chun-Hoon attended Indiana University, where she earned graduate degrees in Public Affairs, Nonprofit Management and Philanthropic Studies. She earned a B.A. in Urban Studies from Vassar College.
