Washington, D.C.—I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Pronita Gupta as the new director of CLASP’s Job Quality policy team. Pronita joins CLASP after her role as deputy director of the Women’s Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor where she was a leader in designing and implementing policies to help women and low-wage workers advance in the labor force. She played a key role in the Obama Administration’s path-breaking grant program to promote paid family and medical leave at the state level and brings deep expertise in CLASP’s other job quality issues, including paid sick days and fair scheduling.

Pronita’s distinguished career reflects her commitment to labor force opportunities and fair standards for low-wage workers, women, and people of color, along with her deep knowledge of community and labor organizing, program design, planning, and implementation, as well as research. Prior to her role at the Women’s Bureau, Pronita served as senior director of programs for the Women’s Donor Network and earlier as research director for Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy. She also has extensive experience in community and labor organizing through her leadership roles at SCOPE, a nationally recognized organizing and progressive movement building organization in Los Angeles; the Living Wage Campaign at the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE); and at the Institute for Southern Studies, a progressive regional think tank in Durham, where she served as both executive director of the organization and publisher of Southern Exposure magazine. She earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clark University
