Getting to Head Start

The cost of child care rose more for Black student fathers than other student parents in the last decade because they are less likely to have access to public child care benefits. From 2011 to 2019, the average cost for Black student fathers rose nearly 77 percent, from $388 per month to $686, according to an analysis from the Center for Law and Social Policy. The average child care costs for all student parents rose nearly 42 percent, from $406 per month to $575.
