Federal Policy Priorities
CLASP protects and improves anti-poverty programs and policies by centering racial equity and uplifting solutions named by the people most impacted by inequity and poverty. We work across our core policy areas to increase investments, eliminate barriers to access, highlight who is impacted and how, and improve policies, systems, and programs to ensure our country is one that supports all of its people.
Basic Needs: What We’ve Lost and What We Need
The Budget Reconciliation Act of 2025 made devastating cuts to programs families rely on to thrive, including the largest cuts in history to Medicaid and SNAP. Along with rising costs of living, families are dealing with the consequences of administrative actions that have resulted in the the elimination or drastic reduction of federal programs, grants, and staff working to reduce inequities; the increased exclusion of immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people living with disabilities from services; and an immigration enforcement agenda centered on separating families. Further actions from the administration and Congress to cut funding and pass exclusionary policies puts everyone, but particularly families with low incomes, at risk for harm.
CLASP focuses on working to not only reverse these harmful attacks but to build a country where families and children have the support and resources they need to thrive.
