The Trump Administration is drafting a rule that would hurt millions of immigrant families who hope who who hope for a better life. If enacted, the proposed rule would force many immigrant parents to make an an impossible choice between caring for their children and obtaining a permanent legal status in the U.S.
Draft changes to the “public charge” rule would put immigration status at risk if an immigrant—or his or her family, including U.S. citizen children—seeks access to programs that support health, nutrition, and economic stability. This would force a lose-lose choice for immigrant families, with serious consequences for child development.
