Alexandra (Alex) Costello is CLASP's director of legislative affairs. She coordinates across the organization to provide direction and strategy for CLASP’s advocacy for public policy.
Before joining CLASP, Ms. Costello worked for almost 15 years for the Federal government. Most recently she was a Political Appointee for the Obama Administration working at the State Department, first as the director for Senate affairs in the Bureau of Legislative Affairs, then as chief of staff for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. Prior to joining the State Department in 2013, Alex served on the personal office staff of then-Senator John Kerry (D-MA) for a decade in a variety of senior roles, including political director as well as primary domestic policy advisor on issues such as appropriations, transportation, immigration, economic development, the judiciary, criminal justice, education and workforce.
Ms. Costello earned her BA in government and politics from the University of Maryland (College Park) and her Masters of Arts in Congressional and presidential studies from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
