On this national audio conference, Representative Donna Edwards announced the WAGES Act, a bill to help close the wage gap between tipped employees and other workers by raising the minimum wage for these workers to $3.75-the first raise in 20 years. In the call's second part, experts discussed three new reports from the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United about the restaurant industries in Washington, D.C., Miami and Los Angeles. The reports are the most comprehensive studies ever conducted on these local restaurant industries. They demonstrate that workers in one of the nation's largest sectors largely lack paid sick days, fair wages and access to health insurance. Transcript available here.
