The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act: Opportunities to Assist Black Males
Jun 10, 2009
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is designed to jumpstart our nation's economy, preserve and create jobs, assist those most affected by the recession, and to begin necessary investments in neglected areas such as education, child care, environmental protection, transportation and infrastructure.
When considering populations most affected by the current economic situation, there is definitely a case to be made for using these one-time resources to begin to put in place programs and efforts which will have lasting effects for the Black male population. Advocates and community-based organizations must work with local and state systems to make the case for targeted resources, and to develop innovative ways of reaching and supporting Black men and boys with education, training, employment, health care, and preventive services.
