Unemployment Insurance Keeps People Out of Poverty

More than 3.4 million people were kept out of poverty by enhancements of unemployment insurance during 2010. Using a poverty measure that adopts recommendations of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), prefer to the traditional poverty measure by most experts, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found that six Recovery Act initiatives kept 6.9 million people above the poverty line in 2010.
