A Child Tax Credit for Some?
Families with children under 17 can receive a child tax credit of $1,000 per child. But in 2007, the Tax Policy Center calculates that 27 percent of children in working families received less than the full credit because their parents earned too little. This number is expected to fall in 2008-2010, due to improvements included in the 2008 tax law and the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. But unless Congress acts, these provisions will expire and millions of children in low-income working families will not receive the full value of the credit.
