Maine Commission Calls for Focus on Low-Income People in Stimulus Decisions
Jun 10, 2009
The Maine Council on Poverty and Security has called on Gov. John Baldacci and the Legislature to use American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to invest in low-income families. The council sent Gov. John Baldacci and the Legislature a set of principles designed to promote access to recovery act funds by low-income people and the programs that help those struggling to make ends meet. As the letter notes, the ultimate objective is to ensure that "state takes this opportunity to invest in (their) most important resource, people, so that we can come out of the other side of this recession ready to succeed."
