An article in this week's edition of Education Week (registration required) examines the Early Learning Challenge Fund legislation that passed the House Education and Labor Committee in July. The article quotes Danielle Ewen, Director of Child Care and Early Education at CLASP, as calling the legislation a "great first step" in moving state policymakers towards improving access to quality early childhood settings for more children.
The legislation, part of the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009 (SAFRA), proposes to expand the number of low-income children in high quality early childhood settings. States will be challenged to make a number of improvements to their early childhood systems across settings for children from birth to age five. READ MORE.
