2012 Child Care Provider Reimbursement Rates
According to a new report from the National Women's Law Center, Downward Slide: State Child Care Assistance Policies 2012, only one state, New York, met the recommended provider payment rate in 2012. This is down from 6 states in 2010 and 21 states in 2001. The recommended provider payment rate is designed to allow parents to be able to purchase 75 percent of care in their local child care market.
Across the country, states are increasingly looking at issues of quality to improve early childhood programs and promote positive child outcomes. The report shows that these quality initiatives are building on an extremely weak foundation.
